People and organizations nationwide have come together around the Million Voices Campaign to End Domestic Violence in America – working to educate, inform and raise awareness about domestic violence, and where victims can turn for help. Members of the Million Voices Campaign are making a powerful statement to America: Domestic violence is an intolerable act. “The launch of the Million Voices Campaign will address what has long been missing in domestic violence services prevention: an organized national effort driven by dedicated volunteers raising their voices against domestic violence,” said National Domestic Violence Hotline CEO Sheryl Cates. “Together we will make history and in so doing, we will raise the standard for domestic violence prevention in America.”
Joining is easy and free of charge. Help us make the goal of ONE MILLION members by joining and letting others know about this influential campaign. The National Domestic Violence Hotline will announce this accomplishment in the media, among our state and national leaders, and on multiple websites. Join the Million Voices Campaign, and give us a million reasons to end domestic violence. For more information, visit The National Domestic Violence Hotline.

As a representative of authors Marala Scott & Tre Parker,In Our House, Perception vs Reality, a powerful memoir of domestic violence & child abuse, I'd like to add my voice to the million voices campaign. I have been a victim of domestic violence myself and have been heartbroken to find that my 21 year old daughter has been a victim herself. I am privileged to work for Marala Scott & Tre Parker who has made it their life's purpose to prevent domestic violence with her "Indicators of An Abuser" which you can check out at the link below. http://www.inourhouseat907.com/feedback_story.php
ReplyDeleteMs. Scott & Mr. Parker are spreading the word through speaking engagements at college campuses throughout the country as well as at domestic violence shelters. It is important for all of us to join together and add our voices to prevent & educate potential abusers and their victims.
I saw the authors speak at Baldwin Wallace and am encouraged by the strength of Ms. Scott's ability to share such a tragic story to help people avoid the path and destructiveness that her family experienced. The book is one of a kind and is unique in its message and story. Emotionally it shook me to want to help stop domestic violence from ever happening. I recommend people to read the book In Our House; Perception vs. Reality. The authors spoke about recognizing the Indicators of abuser, how to heal after being in an abusive situation and forgiveness. They are a powerful force to affect lives and help stop the cycle. Their reception by the audience to their speaking was astonishing that's why I am certain everyone needs to hear them. Ms. Scott is right, people need to share their stories of pain to help others.
ReplyDeleteWhy do people inherently try to hide behind the truth? In today’s society we are so inclined to pass the blame, yet we don’t accept responsibility for the fact that we were able but not willing to address or confront the issue before it manifested. We talk to our children about relationships … sex … sports … school and the list goes on! What boggles my mind is that the most important issues are never really addressed. We are a society that strays away from confrontation, specifically when it is not directly related to us. We need to learn to address a potential issue before it has the chance to evolve into something much worse …
ReplyDeleteMarala Scott travels around the country to help address what others may be afraid to. She addresses what some people are not even aware of. “The indicators of an abuser” is so relevant in today’s society and is something that should be taught to everyone … Young and old, male AND female. Abusers have no age limit, sex, color restriction or ethnicity. They aren’t always “bred” into that role either. Just as some can learn to be an abuser, we need to help others “learn” these indicators. This is why it is so powerful that Oprah has saluted Marala as an “Ambassador of Hope” on Oprah.com.
Why are so many ashamed to seek help if they’re in an abusive relationship or any other difficult situation? Personally, I can understand the embarrassment that may come with abuse … This is exactly why Marala’s message is so incredibly powerful and important. She’s not only an amazing story of survival and forgiveness, but she’s giving ALL of us the recipe to prevent. Her tactic is “preventative measures” … She does not want to allow what happened to her and her family, happen to you!
Her memoir “In Our House” Perception vs. Reality is absolutely astonishing. As horrific as the story is, it is rather intriguing. I say this because you would never know that Marala Scott, along with her family, endured the pain and suffering that they did. She made a conscious decision and chose NOT to hide behind the truth … she is addressing it and doing so on a level that is amazing and selfless! I can confidently say that most people would not chance telling a story like hers, especially one of this magnitude and severity, to the masses. She has completely exposed herself to the world with hopes to save others. How powerful is that? If she didn’t hide, why should you?? It will definitely take a million voices to help put an end to domestic violence ... You can add mine to make it a million and one!

This is a good effort in creating awareness about domestic violence. Perhaps you should also consider writing a press release to inform the public at large about this event. Apart from publicity, a press release also has good SEO benefits. Also, consider running an AdWords campaign to reach out to Google users.

ReplyDeleteThis is a smart blog. I mean it. You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses. Youve got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as big as what youre saying. Great job, indeed.
